Hour Detroit
Zúmba Mexican Grille: It’s
an odd sensation, sitting on a high stool at a
stainless steel counter, gazing
out onto Main Street, Royal Oak — and
daydreaming over incredibly
evocative tastes of Mexico while Mariachi
rhythms spill from wall-mounted
speakers. Some folks who know what they're
doing have taken an ugly little
vacant bunker across from the Main Art
Theatre and transformed it into
a colorful, hip little taco stand
specializing in a short menu of
real-deal Mexican street food. The guacamole
is the best we’ve had this side
of Zihuatanejo, and is offered as both side
dish and one of several toppings
for the big, beautiful, sloppy burritos,
crispy or soft-sided tacos,
quesadillas and such. You can finish it off with
any or all of the salsas and
garnishes at the self-serve station. 121 N.
Main St., Royal Oak; 248-542-1400. L & D daily. $3
